Biography

"Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. It will not lead you astray" - Rumi

Eager for something new, something unique and exciting, I attended weekly Egyptian Belly Dance classes, completely dedicated to practicing new moves so meticulously that I could shimmy in my sleep. At the end of the class series, my instructor introduced a young woman who was "going to show us a very different side to Belly Dance".  Within a few moments of the music starting, I was captivated. The dancers strong isolations,  intense  and powerful stage presence, paired with slow, slinky movements was completely mesmerizing.  Like being struck by lightening, I knew that I needed to move like that.

Tribal Fusion Belly Dance was a fairly new genre of dance, and finding any instructional videos or DVDs proved difficult.

Because of this, I became a self-taught fusion dancer and performer, and offer a unique approach to teaching this dance form.  I would spend hours on YouTube, dissecting moves of my favorite fusion dancers by studying their videos.

Since my beginnings, I've had the pleasure of working with many superb, influential belly dancers, including Zoe Jakes, Carolena Nericcio, Kami Liddle, Sadie Marquardt, Deb Rubin, Elizabeth Strong, Ma'isah, Carrie Moore and Lakita.

Fusion Belly Dance has been my love and passion for years because of the freedom I experience in dancing! I continue to explore and grow in this dance form constantly. I love how accepting and boundless it is, and invite anyone who would like to explore their own creativity and inner goddess to join in on my weekly series!

I have had the pleasure of teaching classes in both Alaska and Australia, performing at local events and competitions, and featuring in music videos and performance pieces!

What Fusion Belly Dance is (to me)

Fusion Belly Dance is, in essence, an ever-evolving dance form.  Its limits are bound only by each dancer’s creativity, and their willingness to explore within their own unique style and beyond.  It incorporates elements from many dance forms; from ballet to hip-hop, across the stage to traditional belly dance and contemporary/modern. Fusion is heavily influenced from other genres of belly dance, such as American Tribal Style (ATS), traditional and oriental.  It stays true to its name, ‘fusing’ together varieties of movement and expression, creating a truly unique and mesmerizing dance form for both the audience and the dancer.

In my own class instruction, I strive to make my students comfortable and engaged with the content, while creating a fun, supportive environment for us to grow in dance together!
